BAHASI’s Plan of Action
Our main focuses at BAHASI for July are:
Fundraising to build a fence
One of our goals for BAHASI in 2025 has been to move our Girls into the new girls hostel. This hostel is going to give the kids much needed privacy and space and will make their living space much cleaner and comfortable.
Currently, without the fence protecting our children from the road, we cannot in good conscience move them into the new building. Find out more in our struggles section
Female Empowerment Tailoring Programme
We aim to have our tailoring programme in full swing by June! We are so excited to be able to share valuable skills that promote self-sustainability and will majorly benefit the lives of women in our community. Read about what we have been doing to prepare for this project and more about what this project is in our updates section.
Youth Development Club
Our Youth Club is officially back up and running! Throughout July, we want to maintain consistency and ensure every young person learns, grows, and has fun. We hope to have some fun youth club activities in the upcoming months, like art clubs, sports groups and life skills development. Find out about our June activities in our highlights section!
Updates
Women’s Empowerment Tailoring Programme
The tailoring programme is now successfully up and running! It started on the 11th of June and we are happy to announce that it is going extremely well. We are so grateful to everybody who has made this programme possible as it allows members of our community to learn an incredibly useful skill that will support them in becoming self-sufficient.

Hostel construction
With the generous support of Hope Church, in Scotland, we have been able to start the construction of the girls hostel fence, lay foundations and get the ball rolling with the completion of this project. We still have ways to go before everything is complete, so please check out our struggles section to find out how you can help our girls move into their new home.

This month we have celebrated the Birthdays of:
Visitors
We had so much fun when the McLean-Foremans came to BAHASI on the 16th and 27th of June. Both visits were filled with dancing, chatting and playing netball and football which was thoroughly enjoyed by both parties! They loved getting a tour of BAHASI, seeing where the children live, seeing the classrooms, new girls hostel and kitchen. It was incredibly special to be able to show them the progression of the fence for the new girls hostel which was funded by their church in Scotland. The kids of BAHASI also got to enjoy a kind donation of rice, meat, vegetables and cake, which was a highlight!

Prophet AO Festus visited us with a very generous donation and some hope filled wise words for our kids. His kindness inspires us everyday, and we feel very lucky to have his support.

We hosted the amazing team from Open Hearts Network this month. The joy and laughter that filled our centre, was truly priceless! The time, effort and support given this month will continue to bless us for some time.

BAHASI was so happy to be able to celebrate Babra’s birthday with her! Her amazing family brought yummy snacks for everyone, cake, and drink’s to celebrate with, including a donation of items like cooking oil, soap, toothpaste and body oil. To celebrate Barbra’s birthday the children took turns performing dances, songs and poems for her. We want to again say a huge thank you to Barbra for turning her celebration into an act of love for our children. You have shown them that birthdays are about sharing joy with other’s which is an invaluable lesson that will set them up well for the future!

Highlights
Birthday Parties
In celebration of the birthdays this month the amazing Ellie McKenzie, a past BAHASI volunteer, bought the kids a cake and we had a joyous birthday and dance party! She also donated a gift for one of our girls at BAHASI and we were able to buy her a dress and doll which brought joy and hope to the home.

Swimming
In an effort to get our youth development programmes thriving once more, we have made an effort to go swimming this month. It was Morris’ Birthday, so this trip included a lot of throwing each other in the pool, laughter and a great example of our kids learning to help and teach one another.

Movie nights
As the end of term approaches we have been doing weekly movies, the kids have been loving getting to watch a wide range of movies. Learning about the arts has inspired us all to do a some more art and photography.

Netball
Our youth development programme is thriving and with the balls donated by the Mclean-Foremans we have been enjoying regular netball and football matches.

New t-shirts
Thankyou so much to both Beth and Haviva’s families for donating these colourful t-shirts to our kids. Some very wide smiles this day.

Touring of the lion king
8 of our kids have been performing in the jacaranda school performance of the lion king. They have had such success that they took the performance to Mibawa Excutive. The school is planning on touring the show around Malawi, keep an eye out and perhaps you can go watch the next performance.

Struggles
Our on-going struggle at BAHASI is having a reliable income to keep the charity running smoothly. Because of our lack of funds we struggle to sustain the programmes which are essential to the wellbeing of those in BAHASI’s care and those we support in the community.
Building a fence - We have been trying to move our Girls into the new hostel for the last 5 month, however, without the fence protecting our children from the road, we cannot in good conscience move them into the new building. This hostel is going to give the kids much needed privacy and space, improving their quality of life drastically. Without the necessary funds it is near impossible to construct a wall in good time.
Feeding Programme - With the rising prices of food in Malawi donors are becoming less able to donate to our feeding programme. We have tried reaching out to local stores and businesses but we are receiving very little support.
How you can support us
Transport- A long term solution to our transport problem is to buy BAHASI our own bus so that we no longer need to rely on small minibuses to take our kids to and from activities. As mentioned in the BAHASI’s Plan of Action, a big goal of ours in 2025 is to really push fundraising for this bus. So, a great way to support us with this project would be to contact us if you: know of any capital grants that would fund transportation projects; are interested in supporting BAHASI in holding some kind of fundraiser event; are able to help us source a bus; want to donate towards a bus for BAHASI.
However; to ensure that our children continue to get an education we need short term support. If you are able to help please visit our donation page or contact us to set up a donation. Our OVC’s have a bright future so please consider helping us out monthly to get our kids to reach their full potential.
Girls Hostel- We are needing donors to help construct the fence for our new girls hostel. we are currently trying to raise £350 to complete the construction and the finishing touches to the building. If you are interested in helping you can donate here or contact us and we will share our project plan with you.
Activities- The swimming programme costs around 40,000 MK per month with is around £20, if you would like to fund this programme, please donate here.
Feeding Programme- To support our feeding programme please get in contact with our staff if you’d like to donate produce (rice, beans, vegetables, meat, etc), or if you’d like to sponsor a child’s food for a week you can donate £2 here
Community Empowerment- If you are interested in checking out our other programmes that support the wider community and give our OVC’s new and exciting experiences please visit our linktree.
