Whats next?

Our goals for next month…

We’ve got lots of exciting things that we’re aiming to achieve in the near future!

  1. Excitingly next month we are planning on renovating our kitchen! This is greatly needed at BAHASI before the rainy season, as currently we are unable to cook if its raining. To find out more about this project and how you can help take a look at the how you can support us section.

  2. Currently we are fundraising for a BAHASI Christmas trip and the BAHASI Nursery christmas party. If you want to find our more about this and how you can help support us take a look at the how you can support us section.

  3. We are aiming to have our home based care program back up and running consistantly through November so those homes within the surrounding community can get that support they need.

  4. At the moment we are in the process of moving the boys into their new room. By then end of November we aim to have completed their move and started using their old room as a new functioning area to be used as a dining space and meeting area!

  5. We are also planning on having home assesments up and running in November where we will visit some of our childrens homes and families to asses their living conditions.

  6. For our long term goal over the next six months we are planning on renting a field to cultivate crops to help sustain our feeding program.

What’s happened?

Our update from last month…

We’ve got exciting updates, fresh faces and new recources!

Since our last update, the fence surrounding the new girls hostel has been completed and the girls have been moved into their new room! This means that the boys can start moving out of their old room and into the girls old room so we can start utilising the space in the boys hostel better. So this month we have been painting the walls in the girls old room and moved half of the boys in so by the end of next month we aim to have all of the boys in their new room. In terms of the girls hostel the ceiling still has to be finished in the dining area before that can be used for its intended purpose.

In addition to this excitingly more of the children have been given places in private schools so now the majority of them are in education. To further aid the education of the children we very generously have recieved lots of new books. The books that have been donated allows access to both educational material to help with them their homework and revision but also fictional material aimed at a range of ages so all the children have the opportunity to read for their own enjoyment!

Another exciting development is the arrival of two new volunteers! Ellen Lacoux and Primrose Taylor from the UK are volunteering through Project Tust and will be staying at BAHASI until August 2026. Their roles will be within BAHASI nursery as well as the social media outreach. Additionally they will be helping out with the home based care and womens programs.

Visitors

This month we’ve had two vistors here with us!

Natascha visited us from the Netherlands from the 17th - 26th. We had a great time with her, on the first night she arrived she brought balloons for the kids which they greatly enjoyed playing with as well as welcoming her through dancing! Throughout her time here she helped out in BAHASI nursery during the mornings and helped the older children with their homework when they got back from school. Natascha also enabled the children to have movie nights and spent a whole day being taught how to make samosas and doughnuts after providing the ingrediants for them.

Welcome dances!

Playing with balloons.

Helping in the nursery.

Some of the older girls also had an art training workshop with Imind and Capa Capa to tell their stories through photos with the purpose of encouraging the girls to use pictures to express their concerns and feelings through pictures.

Highlights

What stood out this month?

This month we’ve been able to do some exciting things with the children thanks to Natascha whos been able to enable them. Twice throughout her visit here she put on a movie night for the childern. One in the girls hostel where they watched their favourite movie Zombies and the other in one of the classrooms where they watched Spongebob. As well as this we spent a whole day preparing and cooking samosas and doughnuts with the ingredients being funded by Natascha.

Additionally we have also celebrated Mothers Day this month on the 15th. So in honour of Mothers Day thank you so much to all the Aunties who work so hard and do so much for all the children here at BAHASI.

We have a new addition here at BAHASI, a kitten which currently goes by many different names and is living in the boys old room.

How can you support us?

What’s our main focus?

Our main focus for this month is fundraising for Christmas. We are planning a trip on the 25th December to take the children to Hapuwani-Malunje. For this to be possible we need to raise KW 2,871,000 which will cover transport, ice cream, lunch, swimming at the swimming pool and biscuits. If you are able to donate to the Christmas trip then please take a look at the just giving page. For the BAHASI Nursery Christmas party we need to raise KW 1,202,800 which will cover food packs and the meal for the party. If you feel able to donate to the Nursery party then please take a look at the just giving page.

Our other key focus curently is raising funds for our kitchen renovation which is vital. Currently if it rains we are unable to cook beacause we don’t have a water tight roof, glass in the windows and a door. If you feel as though you’re able to support us in raising the £257 needed to complete this project then please take a look at our just giving page or contact us.

If you are able please also feel free to donate to any of our current fundraising causes through our linktree.

That’s it for this month.
